Sustainable and Resilient Himalayan Livelihoods

At the Mountain Forum Himalayas (MFH), we define sustainable and resilient livelihoods as those that empower poor and marginalized communities—especially poor farmers, landless, herders, pastoralists, and indigenous tribes—to overcome poverty and exclusion. In the mountainous regions of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, these communities often face systemic barriers that limit their access to resources, markets, and decision-making processes. Sustainable livelihoods are not merely about economic survival; they encompass social equity, environmental stewardship, and cultural integrity. By integrating local knowledge with sustainable practices, we aim to build resilience against economic shocks and climate impacts, enabling these vulnerable groups to thrive within their ecological contexts while preserving their heritage.
